The Winds of Change
As of October 26, 2009

SBTC is fighting to keep "small business" in the Small Business & Innovative Research (SBIR) Program, and we need your help. The lobbying groups BIO and NVCA are pushing to permit small businesses that are majority-owned by VC firms to be accepted by the SBIR program. This would change the small business definition that has stood since the founding of the SBA in the Eisenhower Administration.

The House Small Business Committee favors these changes and the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee has proposed a compromise that would limit the percentage of the awards that could be given to these well-funded companies.

As Congress continues to move swiftly and covertly on passing SBIR Reauthorization legislation, SBTC needs your help more than ever. Take action today by sending a letter to your elected officials or donate to the SBIR Reauthorization Action Fund. It is only with your support that we can successfully weather the winds of change.
